I will be utilizing TEAMS this year. If your child is ever absent, they can always view their work on TEAMS and complete it even when absent. It will be your child's responsibility to get their work turned in when absent.
Welcome to mini-school 8B. I am looking forward to an excellent year with this year's 8th
graders! This year in reading class expect to learn lots of new vocabulary, reading comprehension skills, information about famous authors and stories, how to connect reading to your life on a daily basis and much more!
I would like to welcome you to 8th grade reading in mini-school 8B! You should prepare yourself for a very challenging, yet enjoyable, year. The 8th grade class is a very important group at Stewarts Creek Middle School. You are now the leaders, and you should be a positive role model for others in our school.
Be prepared to read and open your mind in reading class this year. We will be exploring many different vocabulary words, poetry, novels, informational texts, and lots of stories in your literature book. You will also have the opportunity to check out books in the SCMS Media Center , as well as books from my own classroom library anytime.
Parents, please keep in mind that the agendas are an excellent communication tool and take time to look at your child’s agenda on a daily basis if your child has one. If not, E-mail is also a great way to keep in touch, as I check it daily. Another communication tool is my webpage, which I update daily or at least once per week. There, you will be able to access your child’s reading assignments/homework for the week, instructions/rubrics for nine weeks projects, and other helpful resources. You can access it off the school website.
I will issue a literature book within the next week. Students are expected to bring their textbook and reading binder to class each day. Test and or Quizzes will be given over the vocabulary and stories that we’ve read, or any skills we’ve learned. Students will have book projects this year and rubrics will be given outlining the expectations of the project.
The students will receive grades from classwork, participation grades, homework, quizzes, tests, and projects.
If your child is absent please check my website under assignments and Homework for details on what they missed. I also have a spiral make up folder on my desk at school so they may check it as well for details on what they missed during class.
I am looking forward to a great school year! Please don't hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can do to make this year go smoothly for your child.
